Taijiquan (Tai Chi Chuan) Taijiquan (Tai Chi Chaun) is a form of martial arts that focuses on Stress Reduction, Meditation, Self-Defense Application and Flexibility. This physical exercise is based on the principles of effortless breathing, slow movements and proper postures that are proven to be effective as life prolonging, healing and rejuvenating exercises. With daily practice of Taijiquan, it is possible to keep blood and energy circulation smooth throughout the entire body which can prevent disease. These benefits are what led to the popularity of Taijiquan today. There are 4 major styles of Taijiquan today; Chen Style, Yang Style, Wu Style and Sun Style. Our school currently focuses on the Yang Style system. Beginning students will start learning a popular 24-movement Taiji form. Once the student becomes comfortable practicing the 24-movement form, they will venture into longer, more difficult forms. In addition to forms training, the students will also be exposed to Taiji push hand exercises. Taiji push hands is a rhythmic exercise where two people stand facing each other. By pushing on each other in a slow, control manner, Taiji push hands helps the students develop balance, focus, and sensitivity of their opponent. Through time and practice, the student will learn to sense their opponent's energy before it is used, absorb their opponent's energy and deflect the energy so balance and control is maintained. The popularity of Taijiquan has dramatically increased over the last several years. Many doctors and representatives in the medical fields today are recommending Taijiquan practice to many of their patients. Taijiquan has been medically proven to improve: · Many forms of arthritis · Stress levels · Blood pressure · Fitness levels · Many forms of asthma · Rehabilitation time of many health conditions and injuries · Balance and coordination As you practice Taijiquan everyday, you will start to understand how the release of tension and negative energy from the body improves and strengthens you as a person. Many physical ailments are a result of internal imbalance and tension. Taijiquan helps one recognize these imbalances and tensions and release them from the body.
