The Meaning

Americans have misrepresented the term "Kung fu" over the past few decades. Wushu is actually the correct term for Chinese martial arts. Wushu literally means "military art."  Kung fu does not refer to the Chinese style, although for the past decades, it has been the term widely used by Americans.  Kung fu actually means "hard work" or "skill achieved through hard work."  So your kung fu is basically something you are very good at.  Like a dancer, his/her "kung fu" is dancing.  As for us Wushu practitioners, our "kung fu" is wushu.
